Cornice or Cove lighting has to be one of the easiest and most effective ways to bring ambient light into a room and at the same time create a stylish look and feel.

It’s a very simple principle, whereby you run a cornice around a ceiling which is specially designed to be able to contain and conceal an led strip.  When turned on, it creates a border of light around the ceiling which gives definition and drama to any shape or size of room.

In residential lighting contexts I have used them to great effect where a room has been quite a plain shape and there are not many features or nooks to light.  As a creative lighting solution it’s an instant upgrade, and with a single swift and simple turn of a dimmer switch you can change the atmosphere and aesthetics of the lighting to affect the whole room.

Cornices for led strips come in a range of styles, from simple clean lines to decorative shaped versions, so choose the one that best suits your room.  Usually they can be installed using a strong glue supplied by the manufacturer so an easy lighting renovation trick for your home.

The pictures below show how we used led cornice lighting to shape the room, introducing character through mini spot downlights in the window alcove and corners and striking pendant lamps above the table.
